Once, most of North America looked just like this!

But what happened?  What went wrong?

As America was settled, little by little, we have lost our forests.  I hasn't been just logging, or forest fires.  Urban sprawl, and the expansion of cities and agriculture has played the biggest role in nearly eliminating our virgin forests.  Loss of old-growth forest in the United States has been almost 99%; these maps represent our original virgin forests that we have lost. Some regrowth has occurred but not to the age, size or extent of 1620 due to population increases and food cultivation.  But, forests can be regrown and reestablished - if we want!

So how do you begin?

It's actually very simple.  Plant a tree!

It turns out that planting trees is far more effective in combating carbon dioxide then anything you can do!  Volunteer to plant tree in your local parks.  Plant tree in your yard!  Plant tree for your friends and family.  By regreening your local space, you can tip the scale and offset a significant part of your own carbon footprint!  And the best part, is you can do it for almost nothing - trees are cheap!

So get out this weekend and plant a tree with your children!

For businesses who want to participate, it's simple:

  • It's free, just use the logo, and link to RegreeningAmerica.com
  • Donate to the Arbor Day Foundation, or other state or local tree planting charity, or help your employees plant trees - we ask for nothing!
  • No strings!  No catches.  Just Trees!
  • It's all about the trees!
